KAMPALA, 14 November 2012 (PlusNews) - Sex workers in Uganda's capital, Kampala, are reluctant to seek HIV testing and treatment services, putting their health in jeopardy, preliminary results of a new study reveal.

The British producer of the first-ever theatrical play about homosexuality in Uganda is facing legal consequences.

Over a year ago, Daisy and her colleagues were verbally harassed and physically assaulted by a Kabalagala police officer while carrying out an outreach program for sex workers. In a landmark victory for Ugandan sex workers, the Uganda Human Rights Commission has ruled the officer’s behavior cruel and inhumane and recommended that the police officer be subjected to disciplinary action. WONETHA hopes that the Inspector General of Police will discipline the police officer in a way that upholds the dignity of sex workers as human beings with inherent rights.

The 13th conference of the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration was hosted by the Refugee Law Project in Kampala (Uganda) this past July.

The theme of the conference was Governing Migration, and it explored the relationship between forms and tools of governance, and patterns and experiences of forced migration.

It all started when I was raped at a very young age, it was the day I lost my virginity, the day I got pregnant, the day I was chased away from my beloved family, my education ended that day and my life became a disaster. What happened to me made me hate all men because I thought they were all the same and still I remember my mother repeating the same words which are like whistle in my mind up to now that “men are devils, men are snakes” see what they did to you. So I did hate men although I was approached with some men who wanted to marry me but I refused them because I dint have feelings for them but only their money and gifts.

I started sex work at a very young age, traveled to many countries doing sex work and I have been in sex work for 8 years now.

Sex workers in Uganda have lashed out at religious leaders who have condemned their trade but failed to encourage programs and projects to help fight unemployment and poverty in the country.

Sex workers expressed their anger after, Henry Luke Orombi, Anglican archbishop of Uganda, asked police to arrest men who pay for sex with prostitutes.
